Garment Classes
With our garment class series, we take you from having no experience sewing to being able to sew most garments from available patterns.

This is the first class in our garment series and it walks you through most common patterns you can access through pattern making companies and indie pattern makers. It will cover how to determine your size, what kind of fabric the pattern calls for and how much to get. We will go over notions, different fabric weights, as well as many other topics.
This is our only class that does not require a sewing machine, because it includes all the information you need to get ready to sew your first garment. If you like to take notes, a pen and paper might be wanted.
Introduction to sewing

This is the second class in our series, but can easily be the first class you take, because we walk you through sewing a simple garment. It will be good to take our Pattern Literacy class as well, but it can easily be taken after this class as well. In this class we will go over the most basic skills needed to sew garments like, pinning, cutting out patterns, marking your fabric, some straight seams, and hemming.
You will need to bring a sewing machine, thread, scissors, and pins. Patterns, and unbleached muslin will be provided for the class. If you prefer to buy your own fabric, please email to get info on what kind of fabric and how much.

This is the 3rd class in the series and should be taken after the other 2 classes, or if the other 2 are to basic for the sewist's experience level. In this class we will cover some basic techniques that you will come across on most garments. These include: darts, gathers, pleats, topstitching, in-seam zippers, and hemming. We will show you how to do each of these techniques and when and why they are used.

You will need to bring your sewing machine, thread, pins, seam ripper, and scissors. Practicing fabric, and zippers will be provided.

In this class we will build upon the basic techniques with some more difficult skills. In this class we will learn to do a bias finishing for necklines and armholes, we will learn to line a bodice, and practice a few hand stitches that are used commonly during garment sewing.

You will need to bring a sewing machine, pins, scissors, and thread. Practicing fabrics, and hand sewing needles will be provided for the class.

After learning the skills used to sew most garments we will learn how to change a pattern to better fit us during our mock-up fitting class. During this class we won't be sewing, but fitting a few mock up onto each other. We will learn how and where to take things in and mark where things need to be let out, to gain a desired fit. We will practice with a partner and then on ourselves. Then we will learn how to transfer our adjustments from the fabric mock up, onto the paper pattern.

You will need to bring pins, a measuring tape, and marking tool. Mock-ups, patterns, and pattern paper will be provided for the class.
