Hello

I'm Sarah, the owner and head teacher of Stitch Yourself. I love to sew my own clothes because it helps me express and live by my values of sustainability and self-sufficiency. I love making something that I use every day with my own two hands.

My Story

My crafting journey began in 2011 at a booth in the San Jose Maker's Fair. This booth had a crocheted cat stuffy from a pattern in the book Hello, My Name is Amineko. I loved the cat, but it wasn't for sale. Instead, they were selling the book that taught you to make it yourself. The idea of making it myself instead of just buying it flipped my world upside down. This was the first spark in my passion for crafting. I bought the book, and then I called my Grandma to ask if she could teach me the basic crochet stitches. A week later I finished my own crocheted cat, but I didn't stop there! I made more crocheted animals. Then I started to sew. I learned to knit and needle felt. I worked in the crafting community, selling sewing machines, working at a boutique yarn store, and doing alterations for wedding dresses. Now my journey takes a new turn; I want to teach the joy of crafting to others, to ignite their passion and help them start their own journey in the world of crafting.
